'Pencil In' Time for Routine Sweeping Head Adjustments

There are many things that can be done to your sweeper to enhance its sweeping performance and prolong the life of some of the replaceable parts. One is to adjust the sweeping head at least once a month. The following tip, courtesy of the Schwarze engineering team, is an easy way to get the right amount of tension onto the head.

Keep your sweeping head adjusted so it is partially suspended by the tension springs. This will reduce much of the weight that would otherwise be resting on the skid plates. One of the simplest ways to do this is to let the head down onto 4 pencils - one at each corner of the head. Then, while the head is on the pencils, take up the slack on the springs. At this adjustment, your sweeper will have enough suction to pull the head down flush with the road surface and at the same time you will reduce the weight placed onto the skid plates. Your head will be in better adjustment, you'll increase your pickup efficiency, and you'll reduce the chance you might mark up the pavement with your skid plates.
